Dr. Thomas H. Phillips, DVM
84 years old of Lebanon, died Thursday, September 22,2005 in Hendricks Regional Health. He was born March 2, 1921 in Sheridan, Indiana, son of the late Siah C. Phillips, DVM and the late Alice Foulke Phillips.
He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, Brownsburg, The American Legion, and a charter member of the Indianapolis Zoo. He served on The Boone County Selective Service Board for ten years, the last five of which were in the capacity of chairman.
He was a graduate of Sheridan High School, Purdue University and Michigan State Veterinary College. He also completed two years of graduate research at Purdue in the eradication of poultry diseases. He was a Veteran serving during WWII & Korean War.
Dr. Phillips retired on May 13,2000 after 57 years of veterinary practice. During those years, he worked for the Indiana Bureau of Animal Industries in the Tuberculosis Eradication Division and for the Indiana Livestock Sanitary Board. As appointed head of the Brucellosis Eradication Division of that Board, he was largely responsible for eradicating brucellosis in the state of Indiana. He also served as Executive Assistant Indiana State Veterinarian and Acting Indiana State Veterinarian.
In the early 1960's Dr. Phillips moved to Boone County and had a flourishing veterinary practice until he retired.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Phillips and daughter, Sandra K. Arrance of Omaha, NE; two sons, David L. Phillips of Indianapolis and John S. Phillips of Jamestown; Sister, Margaret Cooper of Tipton; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2:00 to 8:00PM Sunday, September 25 at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Indiana.Services will be held at Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Monday, September 26, 2005 at 10:00am withe Pastor Tony Maynard officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown View Cemetery, Sheridan, Indiana. Contributions may be made to the Bethesda Baptist Church, 7950N 650E, Brownsburg, IN 46112.
