Obituary

Darleen was born at Montgomery County Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville, Indiana on December 2, 1949, to Walter Earl and Thelma (Hoskins) Hopper. On September 1, 2024, she passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Darleen was a longtime resident of Advance, until she purchased her new home in Brownsburg in 2017. She attended Granville Wells High School where she graduated in 1968. Right after graduation, she began her career at the State Board of Health as a secretary. During her tenure, she earned several promotions, received multiple recognitions, and was named "secretary of the month" several times. As assistant to the State of Indiana Health Commissioner, she provided training and helped implement a variety of programs and initiatives as directed by the Indiana State Department of Health during her 51 years of service, ending her career as Radiology Licensing Coordinator. While she was working for the State Board of Health, she also worked part-time at Parisian Department Store, downtown Indianapolis, in customer service and was responsible for the nightly closing of the store. She continued working at the same location after Carson's purchased the store until it finally closed the doors at its downtown Indianapolis location.

Darleen's many interests that brought her enjoyment included traveling, baking, ceramics, family heritage and history, antiques, and reading. She loved hosting family gatherings. Her most enjoyment was being with her nieces (Krista and Courtney). More recently her great nieces (Gracie and Lainey) and great nephews (Kolten and Kyler) brought her great joy and pride.

What spare time Darleen had was being an active member and secretary of the Jamestown Pentecostal Church for many years. More recently, she attended Advance Community Christian Church.

Darleen is survived by her brother, Robert Hopper (Alice Neal); sister-in-law, Nancy Hopper; nieces, Krista (Keith) Cromwell and Courtney (Jason) Graham; great nephews, Kolten Cromwell and Kyler Cromwell; and great nieces, Gracie Graham and Lainey Graham.

In addition to her parents, Darleen was preceded in death by her sister, Kitty Hopper-Parkhurst, and a brother, Jeff Hopper.
