Obituary

Rosemary "Jean" Wood, loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother left to be
reunited with her first and only love Pete, on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the age of 94. Jean was
born in Indianapolis to Curtis Kennell and Ethel (Maple) Kennell on February 6, 1926. Anyone
who met Jean was doomed to fall under her spell and love her. She was sweet and wise, but at
the same time witty and sarcastic.
Jean attended and graduated from Ben Davis High School. After graduating from the Indianapolis
Business College, she worked as an accountant for DA in downtown Indianapolis. In 1952, Jean
married the boy across the street who she first met when she was 6 years old. She then became
a full time homemaker, raising her overly energetic brood of three boys and a girl. When the kids
were all in school, she took a night position as a custodian for Western Boone School High
School (where she worked for 22 years).

Once Jean retired, she became the official chaperone for all of the WeBo Art trips and events.
She also became known as "Cookie Mom" for baking the cookies and peanut butter balls that the
students of WeBo loved. Jean was always busy crocheting, gardening, baking and spending time
with her family and her puppy, but because she wasn't quite busy enough, she decided to start
volunteering at Witham Memorial Hospital. Her claim to fame at the hospital was that she went
skydiving when she was 84. At 92, she did get to visit Niagara Falls, one of her bucket list items,
and then checked off another one by ziplining at the falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold "Pete" Wood (12/22/1999), her son, Charles
William Wood (11/21/1988) and her grandchild, Caitlin Lee McMasters (9/11/2009). She is
survived by her three children, Michael Wood, Terri (Brad) Gavin, and Curtis (Debbie) Wood. She
is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (IlIea) Anglin, Brandi Wood, Traci (Chris) Porch,
Amber (Justin) Lance, Kurtis Wood and 17 great grandchildren,
Jean's family will hold a small private service after which she will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memory
Gardens in Boone County. Her family plans to have a celebration of her life at a later date.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Humane Society for Boone County at
