Obituary

Harry "Pete" Evans Jr., 87 of Brownsburg, formerly of New Ross passed away at Brownsburg Meadows Assisted Living facility, after a short battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was born May 28, 1931 to Harry P. Evans Sr. and Grace Marie Evans in New Ross Indiana. Pete was a 1949 graduate of New Ross High School and a farmer his entire life until retirement in 1984.

He first married Mabel Knox in February 1954. They divorced in 1979. He later married Jackie Beach in 1986. She preceded him in death. After retirement from farming, he and Jackie moved to Sun City, Arizona. They lived on the golf course and enjoyed many years of golf and "happy hours" with friends.

Also preceding him in death are his parents, brother, Tom Evans, and nephew Dr. William Evans.

He was an avid New Ross Bluejay basketball fan and loved Purdue sports. He raced go-karts for many years all over the Midwest and was the Indiana State Go-Kart champion. He was a member of the Indianapolis Kart Club, a big fan of the Indianapolis 500 and all things racing. One of his proudest moments was seeing his grandson, Chris Yano, take an official lap around the beloved Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose and was a member of the New Ross Volunteer Fire Dept.  He was a Republican Precinct committeeman for several years.

Survivors include son, Gary of New Ross, daughter Sherry of Brownsburg, step-sons Bruce (Sham) Beach of California & Brad (Mary) Beach of Texas and nephew Pat Evans of Greencastle. Three grandchildren: Ginger Hart of Zionsville, Chris (Anna) Yano of Arizona, and Melissa Evans, 3 step-grandchildren Brian (Karlie) Beach, Brandon Beach and Matthew Beach, all of Texas. Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was proud to be from New Ross and talked about the small town (and the characters in it) his entire life. He always wanted everyone to be comfortable, so in his honor, please feel free to dress very casually for the funeral.

Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018 at Porter Funeral Home in Jamestown, IN from 11-1, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in the New Ross Cemetery. Immediately afterward, friends may gather at the New Ross Steak House, his favorite hometown hangout, for a celebration of his life.
