Margaret "Jean" McGown, 97, of North Salem, Indiana, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Independence Village of Avon. Jean was born on June 16, 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Leon and Jesse Woessner.

She graduated from Clayton High School in 1947 and married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" McGown, on Christmas Eve that same year. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and farming until Bob's passing on February 28, 2005.

While raising their six children, Jean worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She also served as an office manager for the State of Indiana and worked in office personnel at Robert Long Hospital. Over the years, she developed a love for collecting and selling antiques, a hobby she greatly enjoyed.

Family was Jean's greatest joy. She was the proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her growing family and took great pride in their accomplishments. Jean lived a full and active life. She loved playing card games of every kind with friends and family in Indiana and later with her many friends at her winter home in Winter Haven, Florida. During retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting Europe, the Caribbean, and destinations throughout the United States, creating treasured memories along the way.

Jean will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, her love of family and friends, and her ability to bring people together around a card table, a conversation, or a shared adventure.

Jean is survived by her children, Gary McGown, Barbara (Conrad) Fulton, Betsy (Danny) Kiger, Patricia (Charles) Bucy, and Richard (Christine) McGown; daughter-in-law, Sharon McGown; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Gerald McGown, in April 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Porter and Hunt Funeral Home, 6 S. California Street, in North Salem, Indiana. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow services at Fairview Cemetery in North Salem.
