New Ross

Obituary

Kevin Lee McHargue, 63, of New Ross, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville. He was born on June 11, 1963, in Lebanon, Indiana, to the late Norman and Patricia Sue (Butler) McHargue.

On December 30, 1988, Kevin married the love of his life, Melissa Frederick, in Jamestown, Indiana. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and serving their community. They shared 37 wonderful years of marriage.

A 1981 graduate of Western Boone High School, Kevin dedicated his professional life to the trucking industry, a career he began at just 18 years old. Most recently, he drove for M. R. Smith Trucking. Trucking wasn't simply a job for Kevin—it was a lifelong passion that allowed him to meet countless people and create lasting friendships along the road.

Kevin also devoted more than 30 years to the fire service, proudly serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. He began his service with the Advance Fire Department before spending the past 26 years with the Walnut Township Fire Department in New Ross. He leaves behind a legacy of selfless service that will never be forgotten by his fire family.

Kevin found joy in the simple things in life. He loved tending to his garden each spring, spending time outdoors, and cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events. More than anything, he treasured time with his family. He enjoyed talking about trucks with friends, spending time with his grandchildren, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, Kevin's kindness and genuine heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa McHargue; his children, Kyle (Kelsey) McHargue and Kameron McHargue, both of New Ross, and Katelyn (Jacob) Swank of New Market; his cherished grandchildren, Payton, Brayden, and Caroline McHargue, and Branson, Benson, and Jaclyn Swank; and his sister, Carol (David) Gregory of Advance.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Funeral services will be held at Porter & Hunt Funeral Home, 315 West Main Street, Jamestown, Indiana. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Montgomery County, with John Maxwell officiating.
