Helen Irene Mitchell, 84, of Jamestown, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Brownsburg following an extended illness.

She was born July 27, 1923 in Boone County to Elmer and Bessie Owens.

She graduated from Darlington High School and later married Boyd Gearld, who is deceased.

Helen enjoyed gardening, reading her Bible, being outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family. Later she married Claude Mitchell who prededed her in death.

She had 3 sons, 2 step-sons and 2 daughters. She is survived by son, Steve Mitchell of Lizton, daughter, Sandy Montcastle of Lebanon, Debbie Merrill of Brownsburg, step-sons, Wayne Gearld & Vernon Gearld, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Larry Gearld & Roddy Gearld, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

She worked in the 80's at the copper plant in New Ross, IN.

Her visitation and funeral services will be held at Porter Funeral Home in Jamestown with Rev. Raymond Duff officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 3:00-7:00 p.m. Service will be Monday, April 14, 2:00 p.m.

She will be remembered for her compassion, love of people and pets, her kindness and being the loved one of her family.

In her early years she was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. She also attended New Life Christian Church in Lizton for several years. She was a lifelong Christian.
