Andrew "Keith" Houk, Jr., of Jamestown, IN, died on July 14, 2007 in Paoli, Indiana.
He was born April 12, 1950 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to the late Andrew Keith Houk, Sr. and Georgia Cummings Houk.
Keith graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1968 and joined the Navy the same year. He was attached to the HMM1659365 of the US Marine Corps and also to the 3rd Marine Division. While serving on the USS Iwo Jima in April of 1970, he was a member of the crew who picked up the Apollo 13 astronauts. He served three terms in Vietnam and was discharged in 1973.
Keith was the Ladoga/Clark Township Historian for several years. He authored several books and booklets on family trees, local histories & Civil War histories. He was a frequent contributor to the Montgomery Magazine and the Crawfordsville Journal Review.
Keith served as a member of the Jamestown Fire Department and as as Deputy Sheriff with the Boone County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the American Legion in Jamestown and in Crawfordsville and a member of the William Knight Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in Greencastle.
He is survived by his sister, Sherry Houk Gee, his nephews, Daniel Listi and Stephen Gee and his great-niece, Emmaline Listi. Keith is also survived by his former wife, Susan Hart Houk.
At his request, grave side rites will be held at the IOOF Cemetery in Jamestown, Indiana on July 27 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Jamestown, Indiana.
